HUX-EXPED

The offbeat

Experience the real Nepal

Upcoming treks: Dolpo · Kanchenjunga

Why HUX EXPED

Built for the ones who go further

We're a small outfit run by people who'd rather walk the hard route than the popular one. Here's what that means for you.

Genuinely offbeat

No Everest Base Camp queues. We run the restricted, hard-to-reach corners of Nepal — Kanchenjunga, Dolpo, Makalu, Nar Phu.

Small groups

Maximum ten trekkers per departure, walked at a human pace with room to actually meet the place.

Local expert guides

Licensed Nepali guides and porters with decades on the trail — your safety, the language and the lore, all covered.

6,000–7,000 m peaks

Ready for crampons? Trekking peaks and expedition objectives from Island Peak to Dhaulagiri.

Photography expeditions

Once a year a dedicated professional photo team joins a select trek to shoot the whole journey — a service you can book onto.

We give back

5% of every booking funds village schools and health posts in the Nepal valleys we trek. Built into the price, no fine print.

Our purpose

To protect Nepal's wild places, one trek at a time.

What the rope team says

“What a wonderful experience our group of four had trekking in Nepal with Deepak. From meeting Nepalese people along the way and learning to cook their food, to navigating the 1,000 steps to Namche Bazaar, he enriched every day with his knowledge and relationships. Everything was meticulously planned — guides, porters, tea houses, stays. He most impressed me when a medical emergency arose and he arranged the safe transport of our fellow traveller back to Kathmandu with the minimum of fuss. One of the best travel experiences I've had.”
SMSylvia MollasiAustralia · Everest region trek
“We have trekked the Everest and Annapurna regions, visited Chitwan and enjoyed Pokhara with Deepak and cannot recommend him more highly. He works tirelessly to ensure you are safe and that your trek is matched to your abilities, manages all the pre-bookings and permits, and his warm relationships with the villagers mean his guests are always looked after. He is medically trained and always has arrangements in place for the unexpected. If you're planning to visit Nepal, Deepak should be your go-to person.”
FBFelicite BlackAustralia · Everest & Annapurna
“HUX-PED doesn't just guide; they teach. I walked away from our 6,000 m peak with vastly improved rope work, crampon technique and alpine confidence.”
TTimMelbourne, AU · 6,000 m peak
“What sets HUX-PED apart is that they don't just 'haul' you up a hill. Dom makes it a point to teach foundational alpine skills — crampon work, ice-axe arrest, crevasse rescue and anchor building. By the time we pushed for our 6,000 m objective, we felt like active partners on the rope rather than clients.”
PMPat MAuckland, NZ · 6,000 m peak
“Leading a group across high passes at 5,300 m takes more than technical know-how; it takes a deep respect for the mountains and the local communities. HUX-PED's style blends professional capability with genuine, down-to-earth connection. It felt like an authentic old-school expedition, not a packaged tour.”
STSarah T.Melbourne, AU · 5,300 m passes
“High-altitude climbing is as much a mental game as a physical one. Dom's positive energy is infectious. He keeps team morale high, ensures everyone is looking out for one another, and turns a team into a tight-knit family.”
MPMark P.Los Angeles, US · High-altitude climb
“HUX-PED delivers the exact opposite of a packaged tourist convoy. They curate expeditions to remote valleys and peaks that require real alpine grit but reward you with total isolation. An authentic, crowd-free mountaineering experience.”
MGMarcus GGlasgow, SCT · Offbeat expedition
“HUX-PED takes you where the crowds don't go. Their knowledge of the offbeat trails is incredible, and the logistics were seamless from start to finish.”

A Himalayan valley and the communities we trek through

5% of every booking · back into the valleys

Why we give back

Nepal first, always.

We put a share of every booking straight back into the valleys we walk — funding community-run village schools and health posts in regions like Dolpo, Kanchenjunga and the Solu Khumbu.

Village schools

We help fund classrooms and teachers in the valleys our treks pass through.

Health posts

Support for remote community clinics, so the places that host us stay well.

Built into the price

A share of every booking, given locally — no upsell, no fine print.

Who we are

Born in the mountains,
built for adventurers.

Hux Exped is homegrown, not an agency. We're a family of Nepali guides who grew up on these trails — every trek we offer is one we've walked ourselves, chosen for its beauty, its safety and the villages that raised us.

Hundreds have walked with us so far. And we're just getting started.

Frequently asked

For the flagship treks (Kanchenjunga, Dolpo) you should be a fit, regular hiker comfortable with multi-day walks and altitude. We grade every trip and are happy to suggest a build-up route if you're newer to it.

Upper Dolpo and Kanchenjunga both sit in restricted zones that require special permits and a registered guide. We arrange every permit end-to-end — it's all included in your trip price.

Ten trekkers maximum, often fewer. Smaller groups move at a human pace, tread lighter and mean you actually get to know your guides and each other.

Five percent of every booking goes directly to community-run village schools and health posts in the Nepal valleys we trek through. It's built into the price — no upsell, reported back each season.

Spring (Mar–May) and autumn (Sep–Nov) are prime for most Himalayan treks. Dolpo, in the rain shadow, is best in summer (May–Sep) when the rest of Nepal is wet.

Yes — comprehensive insurance covering high-altitude trekking and helicopter evacuation is mandatory on all our trips. We'll point you to providers we trust.

Absolutely — plenty of people come on their own. You'll join a small group of like-minded trekkers, and by the second tea house you won't feel solo at all. We can pair you in a twin room to keep costs down, or arrange a single supplement if you'd prefer your own space.

A 20% deposit confirms your place, with the balance due 45 days before departure. You can pay securely by card (Stripe) or by bank transfer with a proof-of-payment upload — whichever suits you. Full terms are in our Booking & Cancellation Policy.
